My very first memory was when I was about three years old. It was of a family holiday on Rottnest Island with my parents, sister, brother, aunts and lots of cousins.
A few years have passed since then but I still love to spend time there and am happy to help my grandchildren have wonderful memories of this magical place too..
I took these two grandies on the ferry.
and we met up with my DD and her gang of three.
My son-in-law had only one night with us
but he made very good use of his time there, building magnificent sand castles.
We spent lots of time on this beach in front of our cottage
where we met this beautiful and very friendly pelican
No public vehicles are allowed on Rottnest so everyone rides bikes and the littlies use scooters to get around.
This is not such a good photo of the gang and their wheels. The few local vans and buses drive very slowly and even tiny tots have plenty of time to get off the road when they have to.
We did spend lots of time befriending every quokka we saw, visitors are advised not to touch these sweet little marsupials but I know at least a couple were kissed by a small person who will remain nameless.
Rottnest has now been voted
the BEST place for a holiday by these kids ever!
Looks like we’ll be going back again one day.

My son and his australian wife went to live back in her home town of Perth and I know that they have visited this island many times, I think because it is not too far away from them.. Is it close to you too>? It looked just as lovely as in their pictures, but with the bonus of your lovely family.. I bet you feel you could go back again and again.. it also seems a safe place to take children. I hope some day to visit my boy and his family .. this place will be a visit too!! hugs from across the world. J
Hello Sue,
Lots of beautiful photo's of Rotto. Only been there once about 30 years ago. Love that it still doesn't have vehicles. I remember going on a old bus for a tour.
Thanks for the memories.
Happy days.
